Meet Cohen Okorie, leader of the Israelite community of Nigeria, Saturday, November 5th, at Bnai Adath. Cohen Okorie represents Ibo Israelites and a confederation of “Sabbath observers” throughout the country of Nigeria. He is the official representative of the International Israelite Board of Rabbis in that country.
Last week, Cohen Okorie was in Chicago to meet with Chief Rabbi Funnye as his congregation, Beth Shalom Bnai Zaken Ethiopian Hebrews, was celebrating its 98 anniversary. Cohen Okorie gave the Chief Rabbi an update on our progress there and discussed some of their most pressing needs. Bureaucratic snafus prevented Cohen Okorie and his delegation from attending the Israelite convention last August. As he travels around the United States on this trip, he wishes to visit as many Israelite congregations as possible.
