In Memory of Rabbi Zechariah Lewi

Rabbi Zechariah Ben Lewi

May God remember the souls of His servants

It is with great sadness that in the midst of this holy season we report the passing of Rabbi Zechariah Ben Lewi.  He was a beloved brother, teacher, scholar, and leader. He was a member of  Beth Ab Shalom before joining Commandment Keepers Ethiopian Hebrew Congregation in Harlem, which was led by the late Rabbi Chaim White.  After graduating from the Israelite Rabbinical Academy in 2000, Rabbi Zehcariah Lewi  became the spiritual leader of Commandment Keepers.  Just a few months ago, he opened a new location for Commandment Keepers in Newark, Jersey.

Rabbi Zechariah Lewi was tragically struck by a car just prior to Yom Kippur. He died of injuries suffered in the accident on the morning of September, 27, 2015, mere hours before the start of Sukkot. With him at the time of death was his devoted wife, Tzadikim, his classmates Rabbi Yeshurun Israel and Rabbi Eliyahu Yehudah, and Student Rabbi Shalomoh HaLewi.

Please pray for his family, congregation, and our community.
