Israelite Men’s Retreat 2017
From March 10-12, 2017, the third annual Israelite Men’s Retreat took place in Harrisonburg, Virginia. There were 89 Israelite men from seven states who gathered in holy fellowship. The Israelite Men’s Retreat is an initiative of the Israelite Men’s Association (IMA). The IMA is a membership-based organization. It began in March 2014, when 25 men met at Congregation HaShabah Yisrael, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Its mission is to promote fellowship and personal growth among Israelite men operating within the guidelines of Torah teachings and principles.
The weekend activities began with a meet and greet, followed by an Erev Shabbat dinner. Torah study and reading took place on Shabbat morning followed by a series of structured facilitated interactive breakout sessions. The theme for the weekend was “A Better Man, Makes a Better Nation.” The men were charged with looking introspectively as well as outwardly about how to become better men and how to build a strong and collective nation. There young men beginning at age 15 and the oldest man was 85 years of age. What came out of these discussions were wide-ranging practical short and intermediate ideas and initiatives that can be brought into fruition gin taking over the course a 12 month period.
The retreat ended with a recap and summary of our time together, many personal testimonies and a firm commitment to continue to build on established personal relationships and to network. Much of this work will be summarized and placed on the IMA website. Plans are already underway for the fourth annual retreat. The IMA is governed by a seven- member steering committee.
