Rabbi Tamar Manasseh

Rabbi Tamar Manasseh at Temple Emanu-El, May 29th

Join us for the inaugural session of Shared Histories, Shared Futures: The Arielle Patrick & Aaron Goldstein Initiative on Black–Jewish Relations, a new multi-year series exploring our shared past and the work ahead.

The series opens with a special Shabbat service featuring Rabbi Tamar Manasseh and Dr. Susannah Heschel on our bimah, in an honest, thoughtful conversation about the state of Black–Jewish relations, moderated by Alvin Patrick, Executive Producer at CBS News.

Rabbi Manasseh, the first woman ordained by the International Israelite Board of Rabbis, is a nationally recognized social justice leader and the subject of the documentary Rabbi on the Block. Through her rabbinate, she has built bridges across communities and confronted violence at its roots. Dr. Heschel, professor of Jewish Studies at Dartmouth College and daughter of Abraham Joshua Heschel, continues his legacy through her scholarship and public engagement on religion, race, and justice.
