Fast Mondays

Chief Rabbi Funnye and many other leaders of our community have proclaimed a solemn day of fasting and praying to begin this Monday, April 27, 2020, and continuing every Monday until Shavuot.

Just as Ester, Daniel, Jehoshaphat, and sages throughout history have proclaimed days of fasting during times of crisis, our leaders have called upon us to offer unified supplication before the Throne of Mercy during this plague of the Corona virus.

Instructions for how to conduct the fast and a list of prayers that you can recite (in addition to your daily prayers and omer counting) are provided below.

As the Creator told Kind Solomon, “If my people, who are called by my name (ישראל), shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

* For additional examples of fasting in scripture read these passages: Daniel 9:3; Ester 4:3, Psalm 35:13; Joel 1:14; 2 Samuel 12:16; Nehemiah 1:4; Jonah 3:4-9; and  2 Chronicles 20:1-3.
